Encyclopedias & Reference Tools

You may find the library's large collection of print and electronic encyclopedias and reference tools handy when:

  • Brainstorming research topics.
  • Looking for basic definitions, terminology, or statistics.
  • Looking for basic descriptions or discussions of people, places, concepts, events, or historical periods.
  • Looking for pictures, maps, or diagrams.

The library's print dictionaries, encyclopedias, and other reference tools are available in the Reference Section near the Reference Desk on the main floor of the library. These titles may be searched in the Library Catalog. Ask any librarian or Contact Us for help with these resources.

In addition, the library's Reference Tools pages, available via the library Research Guides, are a good place to find electronic encyclopedias and reference tools relevant to your research.

To access the Reference Tools pages, first navigate to the relevant research guide for your assignment from the Research Guides home page. Second, click on the Reference Tools link at the top of the research guide. On the Reference Tools page, you will find links to numerous electronic encyclopedias and reference tools relevant to your research.
